Alec Baldwin Vows to Expose ‘Truth’ Behind Rust Shooting, Claims Media Wants Him ‘Dead’
Actor Alec Baldwin has accused the media of a relentless campaign to destroy him, vowing to reveal the “truth” behind the fatal shooting on the set of the film Rust.
Speaking on fellow actor David DuchovnyS Fail Better podcast, Baldwin, who was recently cleared of involuntary manslaughter charges, expressed frustration with what he perceives as biased media coverage.
“There’s more to come,” Baldwin told Duchovny. “It is now my effort … to raise and to expose what really happened. The mainstream press and the tabloid press suppressed every story that could benefit me and amplified every story that could hurt me. This has been for three years. And the truth of what happened has never been told.”
baldwin’s comments come after the completed Rust premiered at the Camerimage festival in Poland, marking a significant step forward for the project that was tragically halted by the 2021 on-set accident. The shooting, which resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, sparked intense scrutiny and legal battles. While Baldwin maintained his innocence, he faced immense public backlash and professional repercussions.
“These last three years, peopel have just dined out,” Baldwin said, referring to the public’s fascination with the case. “Because in this country, when people hate you on that level, they wont three things. They want you to die.The second thing is they want you to go to prison … These political crowds … love to see their enemies put in prison for years because prison is like a living hell. And the third thing is they want you cancelled, which is like being in prison or being dead, because you roam the earth and … you’re invisible.”
Baldwin’s charges were dismissed in July due to the prosecution’s withholding of evidence. Assistant director David Halls pleaded no contest to negligent use of a deadly weapon, while armorer hannah Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
The film’s completion and premiere were made possible after a settlement between the producers and Hutchins’ family. Her young son will benefit financially from the film’s proceeds.
Despite the film’s release, the tragedy continues to cast a long shadow. Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, who has filed a civil lawsuit against Baldwin, refused to attend the premiere, stating that Baldwin has refused to take obligation for her daughter’s death and is seeking to profit from it.
baldwin has denied profiting from the film, stating that he waived his fee and that Hutchins’ husband,Matthew Hutchins, owns the film.
Looking ahead,Baldwin expressed optimism about his career prospects, stating that he believes his “cancellation” is easing.
“I do believe that by the communications I’ve had lately, that things are coming back my way to work, and I’m happy for that because I’ve got seven kids,” he said.
