The 21-year-old converted break points consistently after Parry held her first two service games, surging to a one-sided finish on the opening day of the WTA 500 tournament. Newsbreak.com noted that Eala recorded an impressive ratio of 12 winners to just nine unforced errors while being broken only twice. Prior to the tournament, Eala spoke about her return to the event in her pre-tournament press conference, having previously lost in qualifying at the 2024 edition: I am super excited,
adding, I think things have changed quite a bit since I was here last time, for the better. And yeah, I’m really excited!
She also stated: Well, I think it adds to the motivation, for sure. And, you know, it’s a learning process. It’s a learning process.
and I’m thankfully experiencing so many new things, so as I experience, of course I learn and try to be a better player, try to be a better person, and yeah, like I said, take it step by step.
as well as noting, I think when I’m able to focus on my work, especially on court, and that I’m able to compartmentalise and really prioritise what needs to be on top.
I’m very happy with my performance. I think it was a really good first round, tough first round. Diane is a great player.

Eala entered the tournament ranked 20th in the world. Following the opening round win, her points total reached 2,241, lifting her to 18th in the Live WTA Rankings. That position matches the career-high ranking she first reached in August after capturing her maiden WTA Tour title at the Washington Open.
Second Round Match Against Diana Shnaider
Eala faces a difficult test in the second round against sixth seed Diana Shnaider on Thursday. Shnaider advanced by defeating Yulia Putintseva 7-5, 7-6 in her opening match on Tuesday. The upcoming fixture marks the first career meeting between Eala and the 22-year-old Russian player, who reached the semi-finals at the French Open, holds five WTA Tour titles, and reached her career-high ranking of 11th in June last year.
If Eala defeats Shnaider, she will increase her points total to 2,289 and could climb to a projected ranking of 17th. A tournament victory in Ningbo would raise her total to 2,681 points, potentially pushing her as high as 13th in the world. The quarter-final opponent for the winner of the Eala-Shnaider match will be either Iva Jovic or Jasmine Paolini.
