HCU Plays 2-2 Draw Against UTRGV With Goal From Clarenns Sainrimat

Houston Christian University secured a crucial 2-2 road draw against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday night at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The match completed a suspended contest originally started on October 1, bringing the Huskies’ record to 4-6-5 overall and 2-2-3 in OVC play.

The result leaves UTRGV at 3-5-4 overall and 1-3-3 in the OVC. HCU now shifts its focus to concluding a season-long four-match road trip in the Alamo City.

Resuming a Suspended Match in Edinburg

When the teams returned to the pitch in Edinburg, Texas, nearly three weeks after their initial kickoff, the Vaqueros already held a 1-0 lead from a goal by Elias Taj just over nine minutes into the original contest. UTRGV missed a chance to extend that advantage in the 31st minute when a penalty kick chance was errant. Harvey Heeps then stopped a Vaqueros shot on target in the 34th minute to keep the deficit at a single goal.

HCU capitalized just before halftime. Racing upfield following a foul, Jess Degenaers delivered a pass to the top of the box for Ricardo Garcia, who struck a one-timer to knot the score at 1-1 with a minute and a half remaining before intermission.

Second-Half Equalizers and Final Stops

UTRGV reclaimed the lead quickly after the break when Sammy Jadid scored at the 51:15 mark. That 2-1 advantage held for just over 21 minutes until the Huskies manufactured another scoring sequence off a short corner kick.

Hans Leza deflected a cross with his head, and Ryan Okerayi directed an attempt toward the goal that landed on the outstretched leg of Clarenns Sainrimat. Sainrimat toed home the equalizer with 17:19 left to play, bringing the score to 2-2.

Degenaers tested UTRGV goalkeeper Conrad Knight with a late shot in the 86th minute that was successfully saved. Heeps finished the evening with three saves, while Knight stopped four shots for the Vaqueros.

Road Trip Conclusion Against Incarnate Word

The Huskies wrap up their four-match away stretch on October 25, 2026, facing the University of the Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. in the Alamo City. That fixture was rescheduled from Friday evening to accommodate the completion of the match with UTRGV.

The University of the Incarnate Word currently sits in a tie atop the league table. HCU previously defeated them 2-1 in the conference opener at Sorrels Field on September 26.
