Alex Palou, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, secured a landmark victory at the Indianapolis 500, becoming the first Spanish driver to win the prestigious race. Palou held off a late challenge from former teammate Marcus Ericsson to claim the title at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Palou, already a three-time IndyCar champion, including the last two years, entered the race with four wins in the first five events of the season. The Indianapolis 500,however,was the race he had been targeting. he celebrated by running down the front stretch, tossing his gloves, and embracing his father and team.
Fellow Ganassi Indy 500 winners Scott Dixon and dario Franchitti congratulated Palou on joining their exclusive club. The IndyCar champion expressed disbelief and joy after the win, acknowledging the challenging conditions and high fuel consumption during the race.
