Although the number of platform users of Chinese e-commerce platforms Ali Express (Ali) and Temu has increased significantly, the amount of transactions per person was found to remain in the lower ranks.

According to app and retail analysis service WiseApp·Retail·Goods (hereinafter referred to as WiseApp) on the 21st, the estimated payment amount for Ali in the first quarter was 819.6 billion won, an increase of 164% from the same period last year.

The estimated payment amount for Temu, which landed in the Korean market in July last year, in the first quarter was 91.1 billion won. It has increased significantly from the 1 billion level earned in August last year, the first month of entry into the Korean market.

As of the first quarter, Coupang had the highest estimated payment amount at KRW 12.7034 trillion, followed by G Market and Auction, an e-commerce platform affiliated with the Shinsegae Group (004170), at KRW 3.5548 trillion. This was followed by 11th Street (KRW 2.0631 trillion), Timon (KRW 1.8435 trillion), and WeMakePrice (KRW 773.6 billion).

Based on the estimated payment amount, it ranked 4th among domestic e-commerce platforms, following Coupang, G Market, 11th Street, and Timon, and Temu fell far behind.

This contrasts with the rapid increase in the number of platform users over the past year. Looking at the average number of monthly users from the first quarter, Coupang (30,265,384), G Market Auction (8,359,696), Ali (8,076,714), 11th Street (7,452,003), Temu (6,604,169), Timon (3,671, and 9), Timon (3,671), WeMakePrice (3,486,743 people).

Ali’s average number of monthly users in the first quarter of this year increased by 119% compared to the first quarter of last year (3,684,594). The average monthly number of Temu users increased 16 times from 520,000 in August last year to 8,296,485 last month.

The estimated payment amount per person in the first quarter divided by the number of app users was the highest for Timon, which was 167,467 earned, followed by Coupang (139,879 earned) and G Market (137,470 earned including auction). 4th place was 11th Street (92,167 wins), 5th was WeMakePrice (73,841 people), Ali was 33,622 and Temu was 4,451 wins.

The analysis is that although Ali and Temu managed to attract the attention of many Korean consumers with very low prices, their transaction performance was relatively poor.

Meanwhile, the estimated payment amount calculated by Wise App is a statistical estimate based on credit/debit card, account transfer, and small mobile phone payments made by a panel of adults over the age of 20.
