Alina Habba dismissed speculation on Wednesday that she is in line to succeed Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary, despite leading prediction market polls for the post. According to Fox News, prediction market platform Kalshi previously showed bettors giving Habba a 35 percent chance of securing the role following Leavitt’s announcement that she would step down at the end of August.

Alina Habba Denies Press Secretary Speculation

Habba rejected the rumors through a public statement on social media. Flattered by the Kalshi odds, but I’m not in the running for any job, Habba posted on X, as reported by Fox News. However, if I’m getting a new one, I’d love for one of these anonymous sources to let me know first.

Habba serves as senior adviser to the attorney general for U.S. attorneys. Her previous roles in the administration include a brief stint as counselor to the president and interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, before transitioning to her current advisory post following federal court rulings regarding her acting service.

The Race to Replace Karoline Leavitt

The search for a new press secretary intensified following Leavitt’s decision to leave the podium. According to reporting from the Daily Mail, Leavitt’s departure marks the fifth high-ranking woman to exit Trump’s inner circle during the current presidential term, following a series of personal crises, medical challenges, and policy friction.

Leavitt, 28, who recently returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May, cited the immense strain of balancing the high-profile role with raising young children. Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life, Leavitt wrote in a statement published by the Daily Mail.

New Contenders Emerge on Prediction Markets

Following Habba’s public denial, betting odds on Kalshi shifted rapidly. According to Fox News, CNN political commentator Scott Jennings became the new betting favorite for the press secretary position. Jennings, a former aide to President George W. Bush, was previously considered for the role after the 2024 election before Leavitt was selected.

Anna Kelly, Leavitt’s deputy, followed Jennings closely in the prediction market rankings. Insiders cited by the Daily Mail note that the internal race has grown chaotic, with competing factions and campaign veterans vying for the president’s favor as the West Wing prepares for a new voice at the podium.
