All 154 people killed in Itaewon disaster identified… 1 additional Korean woman in her 40s

On the night of the 29th, 154 people were killed in a tragic accident in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and all of the dead were identified.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said it had confirmed the identities of all 154 people who died at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on the 31st.

The police had completed notification procedures to the bereaved families of the 153 dead who had been identified by 9 pm the day before, and the other one was in the process of identifying the deceased.

Initially, the possibility of being a minor or a foreigner was opened up and confirmed, but it was finally confirmed as a woman of Korean nationality in her late 40s.

According to the Central Security and Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters, at 6 am, the number of casualties was 303, an increase of 17 from 11 pm (286 people) the previous day.

154 people were killed and 149 were injured. Among those injured, 33 were seriously injured and 116 minor.

By gender, 98 were women and 56 were men. By age, 103 people were in their 20s, followed by 30 in their 30s, 11 teenagers, 9 in their 40s, and 1 in their 50s.

Among the dead, 26 were foreigners from 14 countries. The countries of origin are 5 people from Iran, 4 each from China and Russia, 2 each from the United States and Japan, and 1 each from France, Australia, Norway, Austria, Vietnam, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan , and Sri Lanka.

The accident is believed to be a large scale crushing accident which happened on the 29th at 10:15pm when many people fell on a narrow road.

At the time, the citizens of the site agreed that the accident happened as the crowd gathered too much in a narrow lane about 3-4 meters wide, and some people lost their focus and fell.

It is reported that more than 100,000 people flocked to Itaewon on this day before the first Halloween after removing masks in the open air.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency formed a special investigation headquarters of 475 people, including a forensic investigation team, a victim protection team, and a dedicated investigation team, and began a full-scale investigation into the cause of the accident.

So far, the investigation team has secured 51 videos from 42 places, including public CCTV (CC) near the accident site, and private CCTV, and started analyzing the videos uploaded to the social networking services (SNS) in detail.

In addition, during the day yesterday, 44 people were investigated, including witnesses, casualties, and employees of businesses near the accident site.
