The World Cup: Football and Faith

Football as a sport is not a taboo game. Basically, whatever is beneficial to human physical and mental development is permissible for man. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to encourage children to run.

The Prophet (PBUH) told the Ethiopians, who had performed the traditional program of arrows on the day of the festival, to continue it.

Islam strongly warns against entertainment influencing people uncontrollably and life itself becoming entertainment. It is well known in history that the Prophet ﷺ participated in sports exercises, the Prophet ﷺ competed with his wife Aisha (RA), and the Prophet ﷺ gave his wife Aisha (RA) the opportunity to watch the sports exercises performed by the Ethiopians in the mosque. But you have to play by following the rules. No game aside. A believer’s attitude towards entertainment should not be such as to interfere with the proper performance of Namaz.

The Qur’an says:

‘The believers will be those who turn away from unnecessary things’ (23:3)

If they hear vain words, those who stand by them will turn away and say: What we have are our deeds. What you have is your actions. Salaam to you. We don’t need fools.
(28:55).

The playing field should not be feverish and drunk

A believer should not have undue influence or enthusiasm in any matter. That should be the attitude of a believer when playing and watching the game. Because the time and money he spends are given by his Lord. For every moment and every penny he will have to give an account to his master. Therefore, football should not become an addiction. The effect certain games and certain players have on us is immense. Care should be taken not to let that influence become a dependency. Anything that hides about many responsibilities and forgets everything and immerses itself in them is an addiction. Drunkenness is not just alcohol and drugs; Many things that we consider entertainment must be considered taboo if they weaken our sense of responsibility.

Don’t miss the game jamaats

Most of the World Cup matches are played in the evening and after midnight in India. Those who watch the game until night should watch it in such a way that it does not disturb congregational prayers during the day and night. Addiction to football should never stop any believer from performing congregational prayers.

Do not nap:

Quran:

And we’ve made you sleep soundly.
And we made the night a garment.

And We have made the day a period of life.
(78: 9, 10, 11)

supporters

It is natural for those who love the game of football to have a special interest in any team or player. But it is not right that that interest turns into worship and their fans become slaves.

Huge boards and cuts costing tens of thousands and lakhs have appeared in every street and even in the villages.

Also Read – All against football madness; ‘It is not right to walk with the flags of anti-Islamic countries’

It is surprising that people who have no means of food and no job or income share this waste. It is not a love of football, but an expression of the heroism he has built up in his mind towards his football hero.
Love and playfulness are very dangerous when they cross the line into worship. Only Allah should be worshipped. Making fans a personal worship will even cause shirk.
Likewise, there should be no waste

Quran:

Indeed the scoffers are brothers of the devils. The devil is very ungrateful to his Lord.
17:27).

Instead of imbuing the game with the spirit of sportsmanship, there should be no worship of the individual and no national commitment to the nation. It is also not the right way to include the first conquerors and barbarians of India, Portugal, and anti-Islamic countries with their flags.
