Briatore: Alpine F1 Must Target Wins ‍by 2026

⁤ ‍ ⁣ Updated May 29, 2025

Flavio Briatore, ⁣now an executive advisor with increased responsibilities for Alpine, insists the Formula 1 team must target ‍race victories by 2026 and⁣ compete for titles the⁢ following season. His comments come after Oliver oakes stepped down as‍ team principal earlier this month.

Alpine has had a arduous start to the 2025 season, securing onyl seven points. The team also opted to replace jack Doohan with Franco frankntoto after the Miami Grand Prix.⁤ Briatore is focused on ensuring Alpine is competitive when the⁢ new regulations arrive in ⁣2026, giving them an edge ⁢in the Formula 1 landscape.

“In 2026, there ⁢will be no excuses: we must be competitive,” briatore told Le⁤ Monde. “We owe it to Renault to Alpine…we’re ⁤in this sport to win, and with the new regulations⁣ coming in 2026, ⁤the teams that interpret them best will have the edge.”

Briatore believes a key factor in AlpineS future success⁤ is the switch to Mercedes power ‍in 2026, following Renault’s proclamation⁢ that it will leave F1 at the end of 2025. He‍ acknowledged that securing Max Verstappen would‍ be ideal, but the team must work with available⁣ resources. The⁤ move⁣ to mercedes power ⁤aims to level⁢ the playing field.

“Choosing⁤ to switch to Mercedes power was a very difficult decision, but ‍in this sport, to win, you need to have the same tools as the others,” Briatore ⁢said. “For⁢ a million reasons rooted in the past, we were at a disadvantage in that area.”

Briatore, who previously led the Enstone-based squad to three constructors’ titles with drivers like Michael Schumacher ‍and Fernando Alonso, had been banned from ⁤F1 following ‍the 2009 ‘crashgate’ scandal. Even ⁢though the ban was overturned, he⁣ now ⁢effectively replaces Oakes, despite not holding the team boss title.

“Oli was handling all operational matters,⁢ but he’s no longer with us.⁤ I’m now 100% committed and surrounded by a ‍very strong team across all departments — technical, commercial, and management,” ⁢Briatore explained.

What’s next

Alpine will focus on preparations for the 2026⁤ season, aiming to capitalize on the new regulations and the ⁣switch to⁢ Mercedes power ⁤to achieve its goals of race wins and title contention.⁢ The team’s performance in interpreting the new rules will be⁢ critical to its success in Alpine F1.
