# Elon Musk and Sam Altman‘s AI Feud Escalates with Trustworthiness Claims and Accusations of Manipulation

The rivalry between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, CEOs⁤ of‍ xAI and OpenAI respectively, has taken a bizarre turn, escalating from competition ⁣in the rapidly evolving⁣ AI landscape to accusations of dishonesty and manipulation of social media platforms. The latest salvo involves ⁣a screenshot‍ shared by Musk appearing to show openai’s ChatGPT claiming musk is more trustworthy than Altman, sparking⁤ a back-and-forth ‍that highlights the increasingly fraught relationship between the two tech titans.

## A Screenshot and Claims of Platform Manipulation

musk ignited the latest conflict by posting a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) purportedly from ChatGPT stating that he, Musk, was the more trustworthy figure. This⁤ immediatly raised eyebrows, given Musk’s own history with the platform and ongoing⁢ accusations of algorithmic bias.

Musk has‍ repeatedly faced criticism regarding X’s content ⁣moderation⁣ and algorithmic practices. Last year,a study suggested evidence of‍ algorithmic amplification of conservative content on the platform. Altman himself weighed in on the⁤ issue, sharing an article detailing claims that Musk implemented a system to prioritize his own ⁢tweets in users’ feeds.”I hope someone will get counter-discovery on this, I and many others would love to know what’s been happening,” Altman wrote, adding that OpenAI would⁤ remain focused on “making great products.”

Musk quickly retaliated, dismissing Altman as a ⁣habitual liar. “Scam Altman⁢ lies as easily as he breathes,” Musk posted, re-sharing a post highlighting previous allegations of dishonesty leveled against Altman. ⁣Gizmodo reached ‍out to both OpenAI and Tesla for comment, as well as Apple, but did not receive an immediate response.

## OpenAI leads While xAI Burns Cash

Beyond the personal attacks, the feud underscores a meaningful disparity in the current AI landscape. ‍While OpenAI,despite recent criticisms of its GPT-5 model (some have described it as a ⁢”piece of shit”), remains a dominant force, Musk’s xAI is still struggling to gain significant traction.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to be a⁢ leader in the generative AI space, even‍ as ⁤competition increases.xAI, conversely, has⁤ largely ‍built its⁣ brand around the personality of ⁣its chatbot, Grok, which frequently enough leans⁤ into a more provocative and unconventional style.

While xAI is growing, it’s doing so at a considerable cost.Recent⁤ reports indicate the company⁢ is burning thru cash as it invests heavily in building out its AI infrastructure, including a ⁢massive facility in Memphis, Tennessee,⁤ which has raised concerns about its environmental impact and⁤ resource consumption (as detailed ⁤in Bloomberg Opinion).

## The Irony of untrustworthy AI

Despite the billions of dollars and immense resources poured⁤ into AI development by both Musk and Altman, their chatbots are ironically unable to definitively determine which of them‍ is more trustworthy. This ⁤highlights a fundamental challenge⁢ in AI: the difficulty of imbuing machines with nuanced judgment and the ability to⁤ discern truth from falsehood, especially when ⁤faced with complex human behavior and potentially biased facts.

The escalating feud serves as a stark
