Eritrean Runner Clocks Personal Best to Win Shanghai Marathon
Shanghai, china – Samsom Amare of Eritrea stormed to victory at the Shanghai Marathon on Sunday, setting a new personal best in the process. The race,a prestigious World Athletics Elite Platinum Label Road race,saw Amare cross the finish line ahead of a strong field of international competitors.
Amare’s impressive time was just four seconds ahead of Kenya’s Victor Kipruto, who has a history of success in major marathons, including a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Marathon and an eighth-place finish at the World Championships marathon last year. Close behind Kipruto was fellow Kenyan, Hillary Yego, who finished another four seconds back. A trio of Kenyan runners, Timothy Kiplagat, Eric Kiprono Kiptanui, and Kenneth Keter, rounded out the top six.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s Bekelech Gudeta dominated the field, securing a pleasant victory. Gudeta, who set her personal best of 2:22:54 at the Xiamen Marathon earlier this year, finished eight seconds ahead of her compatriot, Tsehay gola. Another Ethiopian runner, Fantu Siyum, finished a distant third, nearly a minute behind Gudeta.
China’s Zhang Deshun secured a strong fourth-place finish, while Ethiopia’s Meseret belete rounded out the top five.

Samsom Amare: Thank you. it’s an incredible feeling. I knew I was in good shape, but to win against such a strong field and achieve a personal best is truly special. It was a tough race, but I pushed myself to the very end.

Samsom Amare: Victor is a phenomenal runner, and I have immense respect for him. We were both pushing hard, and it came down to a final sprint. I just dug deep and found that extra gear to secure the win.
