San Jose, Calif. – AMD CEO lisa Su ⁣stated Thursday that the company’s new AI chips offer superior ⁢performance and efficiency compared to those from market leader Nvidia.‍ Speaking at an AMD launch event, Su highlighted the⁣ MI350 chips, claiming they are up to ‍35 times faster than previous generations. The MI350 chips began shipping this month.

Su asserted that AMD’s MI355 chip provides “greater efficiency” than Nvidia’s B200 and GB200 chips. She added that the MI355X ⁤chip matches the performance ‍of Nvidia’s GB200, but at a ⁣lower cost. The high demand for AI chips has driven prices up, with some costing tens of thousands of dollars.

OpenAI CEO ‍Sam Altman appeared ⁣at the AMD event, announcing that his company will utilize ⁤the new AMD AI chips. “It’s going to be an amazing thing,” Altman said.

Su also noted that the MI355 chip processes 40% more tokens, the units of text AI models use, ‍than competing chips.”MI355⁣ can deliver up to‍ 40% more tokens per dollar⁣ than competing solutions,” she said.
