Days Lost on Folgefonna Glacier
Luhn was reported missing while on the Folgefonna glacier, a popular destination for experienced hikers and climbers. The search effort quickly mobilized a large team from the Norwegian Red Cross, including experienced climbers, volunteers, and drone operators.Initial attempts were significantly hindered by “difficult terrain, poor visibility, rain and high water levels,” according too the Red Cross. However, conditions improved on Wednesday, allowing for the deployment of helicopters and ultimately leading to Luhn’s discovery. He had sustained a leg injury but was reported to be in good condition.
“I’m so grateful to all the people who were involved in the rescue,” Luhn’s partner, Silchenko, said. “It’s the best day of my life.”

Relief and Festivity Among Friends and Colleagues
The news of Luhn’s rescue was met with widespread relief and celebration among his friends and colleagues. Michael Downey, a friend of luhn’s, expressed the collective anxiety felt during the search.
“We were hoping for the best, and I knew he was experienced in the backcountry, but the longer time goes on in these situations you start to fear the worst,” Downey told TIME. “It’s a huge relief to hear he’s alive and well-it’s been a day of happy messages among friends celebrating the good news.”
The successful rescue underscores the dedication and expertise of the Norwegian Red Cross and the importance of preparedness when venturing into challenging environments like glaciers.
