Arts Organizations Celebrate and Support Theatrical Talent Across the Nation
Los Angeles Performance Practice Spotlights L.A. County artists
The Los Angeles performance Practice (LAPP), in collaboration with the California Arts Council, has unveiled it’s highly anticipated Individual Artist Fellowship Catalog for 2022-24. This comprehensive catalog shines a spotlight on 90 extraordinary artists whose work substantially shapes the vibrant creative landscape of Los Angeles County. Through intimate artist profiles, compelling photographs, and insightful reflections, the catalog offers a rich documentation of a year dedicated to fellowship, mentorship, and the cultivation of mutual support within the artistic community.
The pages of this esteemed catalog feature a diverse array of theater artists, including the acclaimed Iranian American playwright Nilgoon Askari, the versatile actor, director, and educator Raul Cardona, and the dynamic performer, choreographer, arts activist, and educator bernard Brown. Also recognized are Japanese American playwright Ai Ebashi, Haitian American actor and playwright Sarahjeen François, and the innovative performing artist, director, and educator Joyce Lu, among many other talented individuals.
Broadway Licensing Global Champions High School Theatre with “String” Grant
In a significant move to bolster arts education, Broadway Licensing Global, in partnership with the Educational Theatre Foundation, has announced the recipients of its inaugural String grant. This initiative, named in honour of the musical by Adam Gwon and sarah Hammond, aims to provide vital support to high school theatre programs.
The five distinguished schools receiving this grant are:
alvin High School, Thespian Troupe #2955, in Alvin, Texas
Hedgesville High School, Thespian Troupe #1696, in Hedgesville, West Virginia
Northeast High School, Thespian Troupe #2914, in St. Petersburg,Florida
Strafford High School,Thespian Troupe #5247,in Strafford,Missouri
Ysleta High School,Thespian Troupe #799,in El Paso,Texas
Each of these schools will be awarded complimentary performance rights and production materials to stage Gwon and Hammond’s musical,String. This newly expanded edition of the musical tells the captivating story of three sisters, who are also goddesses known as the Fates, as they spin, measure, and snip the strings of life for every human being on Earth. The selection process prioritized schools that demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm for producing lesser-known works and presented a clear, compelling directorial vision for their production.
