Who is businessman Hisham Talat Mustafa?

Hisham Talat Mustafa was born on December 9, 1959. He is the youngest of four brothers, the family originates from a small village 9 kilometers from the town of Quesna in Menofia Governorate on the Nile. He had a clear connection with the village until the late seventies.

He achieved a high grade in high school in 1976 and attended the College of Engineering for 3 months before his father convinced him of the importance of studying commerce to help him manage his company.

Hisham started his work in his father’s company before graduating from the College of Commerce in 1980. He served in several administrative posts, proving remarkable success and distinction, and was appointed to successive posts by his father.

In 1992, Hisham Mustafa presented his credentials to the now-defunct National Party, and was promoted significantly beyond his age until he became a key member of the Supreme Council on Policy, alongside the chairman of the Shura Council’s housing committee. He is a member of the districts of Montazah, Ramal and Sidi Gaber.

Hisham Talat Mostafai was the first to establish a full-service residential city that would be developed by the private sector, presenting a new vision for life in Egypt, embodied in the city of “Al-Rehab” in New Cairo.

In 2002, Hisham Talat Mostafa made an effective and influential contribution to the Egyptian economy in general and the tourism sector in particular, as he succeeded in launching a new concept in the market of hotels and hospitality projects in Egypt.

He was the first to bring the prestigious Four Seasons Hotels to the Egyptian market, a hotel management company whose name is associated with providing high quality luxury hotel services worldwide.

In 2006, the “Modinati” project was launched in East Cairo.

Verdict against businessman Hisham Talat Mustafa

In August 2008, Arab media outlets publicized his name for reporting on his connection to the murder of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim, who died in an assassination on July 29, 2008. The Egyptian police arrested the man and coordinated with the Dubai Police in the United Arab Emirates to execute him.

On September 2, Egyptian public prosecutor Abdel Majid Mahmoud announced his referral to the criminal court in the case of the murder of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim, who could face up to 20 years in prison or the death penalty if convicted by the Egyptian Shura Council.

On May 21, 2009, the Criminal Court in Cairo referred the papers of the accused, Egyptian businessman Hisham Talat Mostafa and security operative and former police officer Mohsen al-Sukari, to the Mufti for his legal opinion on whether to execute them upon conviction. The final verdict for their murder was announced on 25 June 2009 in accordance with Egyptian law.

The court’s February 4 session is also scheduled to begin the first hearing of a cassation appeal filed by businessman Hisham Talat Mostafa and former state security investigation officer Mohsen al-Sukari against the death sentences handed down against them by the Cairo Criminal Court. They are behind the July 2008 murder of Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim at her residence in the Emirates.

The Criminal Court of South Cairo ruled in its session on September 28, 2010, in a fifth settlement led by Counselor Adel Abdel Salam Goma, sentencing businessman Hisham Talat Mostafa to 15 years in prison and former state security officer Mohsen al-Sukkari to 25 years. Al-Sukkari was sentenced to 3 years in addition to forfeiture of money and weapons for murder, possession of weapons without a license.

As news of his escape from prison following the recent incident in Egypt sparked chaos at Torah prison, sources said that Talat had agreed with influential people in the prison on his escape scenario and had paid a large sum of money for the escape.

On June 23, 2017, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential order to release 502 prisoners in Egyptian prisons on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. Hisham Talat Mostafa was one of the released prisoners.

Marriage of businessman Hisham Talat

Hisham Talat Mostafa married Noura, a former Egyptian artist, and they divorced in 1993. He is now married to Hawaida, with whom he has three sons, Omar, Tariq and Mohammed. He married journalist Hala El Gohary on August 30, 2008, two days before he was referred for trial.
