Two 2,500-year-old tombs have been discovered in the archeological site of El Bahnasa, 220 km south of the Egyptian capital Cairo. From this came the mummified forms of a man and a woman. These have another feature. Both tongues were covered with gold.
The research and exploration was carried out by the Spanish Archaeological Mission. The news was released by the Egyptian Ministry of Archeology. Archaeologists say the mummies date back to the site of the Egyptian Empire, which ruled until 525 BC. The tomb of the mother-in-law was found completely closed. Scientists say this is extremely rare. Inside the tomb were 4 jars, lockets and many shapes. But explorers say the woman’s mummy’s grave was recently opened and was not in good condition.
Three golden tongues were found in the tombs. A golden tongue was found on a male mummy and a tongue on a female. There was also a small tongue. Researchers say it was found in the body of a three – year – old boy. The ancient Egyptian people were a community that believed in the afterlife. They believed that the soul would go to hell after death. Experts suspect that the golden tongues were meant to speak to the soul of Osiris, the goddess of the afterlife.
Mining in the El Bahnasa region, also known as the Oxyrhynchus, has been in shambles for the past 30 years. Many famous papyrus scrolls from the time of the Ptolemaic dynasty have been found here in recent years.
