Anne Burrell, Food Network Star, Dies at 55
anne Burrell, the Food Network personality best known for her role as the quick-witted host and mentor on “Worst Cooks in America,” died Tuesday at her home in New York. She was 55.
Burrell’s family released a statement describing her as a beloved wife, sister, daughter, and friend whose smile brightened every room. Thay added that her warmth, spirit, and boundless love would remain eternal.
Born in Cazenovia, N.Y., Burrell’s interest in food sparked early, inspired by her mother and Julia Child. She earned a degree in English and interaction from Canisius College in Buffalo before attending the Culinary Institute of America. Her culinary role often highlighted Italian cuisine, especially pasta, and her competitive spirit.
She began her television career as a sous-chef for mario Batali on “Iron chef America,” honing her skills in competitive cooking. In 2008, she launched her own show, “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.”
A Food Network spokesperson said Burrell was a remarkable culinary talent who shared the importance of food and the joy of a delicious meal. The network extended its thoughts to her family,friends,and fans.
Burrell was a steady presence on Food Network, competing in shows such as “The Next Iron Chef,” “Chopped,” “Guy’s grocery Games,” and “Beat Bobby Flay.” She mentored novice cooks on “Worst Cooks in America” for 28 seasons,working with various co-hosts since 2010. Most recently, she appeared in “House of Knives,” a reality series hosted by Scott Conant.
Burrell authored two cookbooks, including the New York Times bestseller “Cook Like a Rock Star” (2011) and ”Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire & Empower” (2013).
She is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton; stepson, Javier; mother, Marlene; siblings, Jane and Ben; nieces, Isabella and Amelia; and nephew, Nicolas.
