Announcement at the Donggyo-dong National Assembly on the 4th… Democratic Party’s ‘nomination scandal’ intensifies internal conflict

In the Democratic Party of Korea, non-Jae-Jae-Myeong-Gye (non-Myeong-Gye) figures have begun to strengthen their power ahead of the general election.

According to the opposition party on the 1st, senior members of the Donggyo-dong faction within the Democratic Party are expressing concerns about the ‘nomination wave’ that recently broke out in the National Assembly on the 4th. About 15 people, including Democratic Party standing advisor Kwon Roh-gap, are expected to gather at this event.

Recently, there was a nomination crisis in the party, with the Donggyo-dong faction and the Kim Geun-tae (GT) faction being cut off (exclusion from nominations) to the pro-Moon Jae-in faction. In the aftermath of this, non-member 5-term lawmaker Seol Hoon, who had been publicly at odds with Representative Lee Jae-myung, declared his withdrawal from the party on the 28th of last month.

This can be interpreted as a move by senior Donggyo-dong figures, including Advisor Kwon, to indirectly support the construction lawmaker. Rep. Seol is called ‘the youngest member of the Donggyo-dong community.’

One opposition party official said about the meeting on the 4th, “The adults in Donggyo-dong are angry right now. They are so angry that they are wondering if the Democratic Party is erasing all traces of Kim Dae-jung and turning it into Lee Jae-myeong’s party.”

Rep. Seol has recently organized the ‘Democratic Alliance’ and is working to strengthen the non-Japanese world. The Democratic Solidarity for Democracy is expected to take steps to merge with Representative Lee Nak-yeon’s ‘New Future’ in the future.

New Future, which has only two active members (Kim Jong-min and Park Young-sun), is hoping to have active pro-Moon and non-Moon members join, including Rep. Seol, who has already left the party, and Rep. Hong Young-pyo, whose defection is imminent. Representative Lee said that if the Democratic Alliance joins New Future, he is willing to step down as leader and change the name of the party. New Future has secured more active members than the Green Justice Party (6) and is aiming for candidate number 3 in the April general election.

Currently, Rep. Hong is also embroiled in a nomination crisis within the party, making it unclear whether he can run in the general election as a Democratic Party candidate. On the 29th, he said on his social media, “I will establish an agreement with those who are thinking about new politics.”

Representative Hong criticized, “The spirit and values that the Democratic Party has maintained are completely shaken,” and “Only the ‘system nomination for Lee Jae-myung’ remains bare.” Rep. Hong is expected to announce his withdrawal from the party next week.

In addition, Representative Seol Hoon of the Democratic Party enters the National Assembly communication hall for a press conference on withdrawal from the party on the 28th of last month. [사진=연합뉴스]
