Another safety accident at SPC Affiliate factory… ‘Finger amputation’ at work

Another accident occurred at SPC’s associated plant.

This time it’s Shani’s factory, and a worker in his 40s had his finger cut off by a machine.

Two days have passed since Chairman Heo Young-in officially apologized for the recent death of a worker in his 20s after being caught in a sauce machine.

It is a bakery factory of ‘Shany’, an SPC affiliate in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

At around 6:10 this morning, the finger of a male worker in his 40s who worked in this factory was broken.

At the time of the accident, the man was performing the final step of making bread, inspection.

Two products with bread were placed in a plastic box and went up on a conveyor belt, but it was found that a box containing only one product was found and a finger was caught in the machine when trying to take it out.

Immediately after the accident, the man was taken to hospital, and the line where the accident happened is currently closed.

In addition to the man who was injured, there were also two other people at the scene, one of whom was said to have stopped the machine by pressing the stop button immediately.

The man is said to be resting after having a finger splicing operation this afternoon, while the police are checking whether safety rules were correctly followed at the time of the accident.

Eight days after the death of a worker in his 20s at SPC’s affiliate factory in Pyeongtaek, and two days after Chairman Heo Young-in made an official apology, another safety accident occurred, and SPC took a crisis.

“Sorry to cause concern,” said SPC.

He also said that immediately after the accident, Shani’s CEO and the union leader visited the hospital to console him.

Earlier, SPC announced that it would conduct an industrial safety diagnosis in all business sites and invest 100 billion won over three years to strengthen safety management.

“We offer our deepest condolences and apologies. To prevent this from happening again, we will thoroughly review the safety management system throughout the group…”

The Ministry of Employment and Labor said this week it would implement a strong occupational safety and health inspection of the SPC group.
