On Friday, April 19, Peng Yang, CEO of Ant Group’s International Business Group, gave an interview to the media. After meeting with Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, Ant Group was in talks with Indonesia to bring Alipay+, a cross-border payment service, to open in Indonesia.
This was reported by Kompas, a local Indonesian news agency. Yang said in an interview: “We need the guidance of the Central Bank of Indonesia to launch Alipay+ as a cross-border payment solution. So far the discussions have gone smoothly. We hope the whole process is quick. Therefore, we will bring many international portfolios to Indonesia, such as China, Japan, South Korea and other ASEAN countries.”
Ant Group launched Alipay+ in 2020 to provide and support technology tools to merchants and e-wallets around the world. This allows app users to pay in stores or international markets with their local e-wallets.
