Anthropic is considering a new funding round that would value the artificial intelligence developer at more than $900 billion, according to a report published April 29, 2026, by Bloomberg News. If finalized, this valuation would position Anthropic as the most valuable AI startup in the world, surpassing its primary rival, OpenAI.
Sources informed Bloomberg that the company is currently reviewing investor offers that would more than double its previous valuation, although the discussions remain in the early stages. This development follows reporting from approximately April 15, 2026, which indicated that Anthropic was weighing offers for a round that would have valued the company at a minimum of $800 billion.
Either a $800 billion or $900 billion valuation would represent a significant increase from the company’s valuation in February 2026. At that time, Anthropic closed a $30 billion financing round with a pre-money valuation of $350 billion.
Strategic Investments and Infrastructure
The push for additional capital is occurring as Anthropic experiences breakout success with its software, leading to an increased need for infrastructure to support growing product demand.

The company has secured substantial backing from major technology firms. Google recently agreed to invest $10 billion in Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation. Google has plans to provide another $30 billion should the startup meet specific performance goals.
Amazon is also expected to provide $5 billion in funding, with the possibility of an additional $20 billion over time. In a news release issued in April 2026, CEO Dario Amodei stated: Our collaboration with Amazon will allow us to continue advancing AI research while delivering Claude to our customers, including the more than 100,000 building on AWS

U.S. Government Regulatory Conflict
Parallel to its funding discussions, Anthropic is navigating a complex regulatory relationship with the United States government. The Pentagon instituted a supply chain risk designation against the company earlier in 2026.
The designation followed a disagreement in which Anthropic objected to the use of its technology for autonomous weapons and mass domestic surveillance. In response, Anthropic has initiated legal action to reverse the designation.
Despite the designation, reports from Axios indicate that the Trump administration is developing a measure to allow federal agencies to continue utilizing new AI tools from Anthropic. This proposed measure could reverse a directive from the Office of Management and Budget that currently limits the government’s use of Anthropic products.
The White House has addressed these reports by stating that any policy announcement will come directly from the President and anything else is pure speculation
