The Estadio Universitario Drought For Toluca
Mohamed returns to San Nicolás de los Garza with Toluca carrying a record of five draws and three losses across eight visits to the stadium since his last triumph there, according to si.com. Record.com.mx notes that his overall away record against Tigres across 15 matches spans two wins, seven draws, and six defeats during his various stints in Mexican football.
The last away victory for Mohamed at the venue took place during the Clausura 2016 quarterfinals. While managing Monterrey, his side defeated Tigres 3-1 in the opening leg before advancing on aggregate despite a 2-1 loss in the return fixture, as detailed by si.com. Record.com.mx adds that his only other away win against the club came with América in a 2-0 result during the Apertura 2014 tournament.
During that 3-1 victory on May 11, 2016, Carlos Sánchez opened the scoring for Monterrey in the 15th minute off an Edwin Cardona assist. After Rafael Sóbis equalized three minutes later, Dorlan Pabón regained the lead for the visitors in the 38th minute. Rogelio Funes Mori sealed the win in the 83rd minute following a collective play, while goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco provided critical saves throughout the match.
Table Standing Contrasts Between Toluca and Tigres
Toluca arrives at the fixture positioned at the summit of the Liga MX general classification table, according to si.com. In direct contrast, Tigres occupies the opposite end of the standings at the bottom of the table, creating a distinct statistical divergence between the two clubs ahead of the weekend match.
Despite his struggles in away matches at the Universitario, Mohamed has defeated Tigres in recent fixtures played at Toluca’s home ground in both Liga MX and CONCACAF competition, as reported by si.com. The upcoming match provides the Argentine coach an immediate path to conclude a decade of negative away results in San Nicolás de los Garza against a struggling home side. This streak includes a scoreless draw during the Clausura 2026 season.
