Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale game “Apex Legends” recently officially announced its discontinuation Linux operating systemsupport, which includes Steam Deck, which also uses the system. The main reason is the plugin issue. The reason is that officials believe that the Linux operating system has become the best way to exploit many loopholes and cheat by opening plug-ins.

“Apex Legends” officials mentioned in the announcement that they discovered that the Linux operating system has become a lot of loopholes that affect the gaming experience, as well as a way to open cheats. This will also affect Linux-based SteamOS on Steam Deck, because officials admit they currently have no way to distinguish between Steam Deck hardware or plug-in software masquerading as Steam Deck.

While this end of support may only affect a small number of Apex players, they still believe this decision can effectively reduce cheating in the game.

He went on to explain that the openness of the Linux system is very attractive to cheaters and plug-in developers. Furthermore, software plug-ins on Linux are harder to detect, and the data shows that their growth rate also requires a lot of effort from the team to focus on this relatively niche platform. There are also cheaters that mimic Windows plug-in software, making detection and prevention difficult.

In addition to discontinuing support for Linux, Respawn will continue to work hard on other anti-cheat efforts. It is also currently improving mechanisms related to detection and blocking. Respawn will in the future through specific tools and channels allow everyone to report cheaters. The fight against cheaters remains their top priority.

This move was also protested by many players on Linux, causing the “Apex Legends” Steam store page to be bombarded with negative reviews. Many players criticized the official for his inability, so they directly made excuses to block the entire platform, and even mocked that the Windows version are all blocked, so cheating will definitely be reduced even more.
