Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S24 Ultra was found to be the best-selling Android smartphone in the first quarter of this year.

However, Apple’s iPhone dominated the first to fourth position among the top 10 models in sales. In the case of Samsung Electronics, there were two models of the Galaxy S24 series in the rankings, and the Galaxy S series performed better than last year.

According to the market research company Counterpoint Research on the 7th, among the top 10 smartphone models sold worldwide in the first quarter, Apple ranked 1st to 4th and 8th, and Samsung Electronics ranked 5th to 7th and 9th to the 10th.

With two companies dominating the top 10, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was chosen as the best-selling smartphone in the first quarter.

Last year, the standard iPhone 14 model was the best-selling smartphone, but as consumer demand for premium smartphones increases, the Pro Max model seems to have shown strong sales this year.

In particular, this quarter was the first time that the iPhone Pro Max model debuted during the off-season when Apple does not release new products.

Second place was the regular iPhone 15 model, third place was the iPhone 15 Pro, and fourth place was the regular iPhone 14 model.

In fifth place was Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S24 Ultra, which was ranked as the best-selling Android smartphone.

Last year, the Galaxy A13, Galaxy’s low-priced product line, outsold the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but this year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra outsold the Galaxy A15 in sales.

It seems that the Galaxy S24 series, which has productive artificial intelligence (AI), has received a good response from the market and has achieved better results in sales than last year.

In particular, in the first quarter of this year, the regular Galaxy S24 model was also in 9th place.

Last year, among the Galaxy S23 series, only the Galaxy S23 Ultra was in the top 10 in sales, but a new regular model was added in the first quarter of this year.

Counterpoint Research explained, “The S24 Series is the first smartphone with generative AI capabilities, enabling users to create original content and experience a new level of smartphone interaction.”

In addition, Samsung Electronics’ medium to low-priced smartphones, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy A34 are ranked 6, 7, and 10, respectively.

Meanwhile, the first quarter of 2024 was the first quarter where the top 10 models in sales all supported 5G. The expansion of 5G is understood to be developing rapidly around the world.

According to Ericsson-LG, global 5G coverage is estimated to have reached 45% at the end of last year and is expected to reach 85% by 2029.

It is also worth noting that the demand for high-priced smartphones remains constant. Among the top 10 models in sales in the first quarter of 2024, 7 were premium smartphones priced at more than $600 (about 810,000 won).

Counterpoint Research said, “Consumers tend to use their smartphones longer because the difference in features provided by smartphone upgrades is limited,” and “Consumers buy expensive smartphones so they can use the latest technology for a longer period of time analyzed.
