Apple Developing New Accessibility Features for iOS 18 and macOS 15: Adaptive Voice Shortcuts, Live Speech Categories, and More

IT media MacRumors reported on the 7th (local time), citing sources, that Apple is developing new accessibility features to apply to the next-generation iPhone operating system (OS) iOS 18 and the Mac operating system macOS 15.

According to sources, Apple is working on several new accessibility features as well as improving settings for the existing operating system. These include adaptive speech shortcuts, live speech category specials, and extended support for custom font sizes.

■ Adaptive voice shortcuts

This feature allows you to map user-set speech phrases through accessibility settings. This is a function that creates a custom phrase and performs a specific function when you say this phrase. It’s similar to Siri Shortcuts, but it looks like you won’t need to say “Hey Siri” to wake Siri.

■ Added category section to “Live Speech” feature.

In the future, a new category section is planned to be added to the “Live Speech” feature, which allows users with language disabilities to enter text and convert it to speech during a call or conversation. Once users specify a category, it is expected that they will be able to more easily add the phrases they want across approximately 20 different icons.

■ App extension to support custom font size

While Apple already allows users to control fonts on a per-app basis, some Apple apps don’t yet support this feature.
