Apple has taken legal action against prominent tech YouTuber Jon Prosser and Michael Ramacciotti, filing a lawsuit in a California federal court. The tech giant accuses the duo of stealing and leaking trade secrets related to the upcoming iOS 26 software update. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday, alleges that confidential information about the new operating system was disseminated online prior to it’s official release.
The allegations: A Breach of Trust and Confidentiality
According to the legal filing, michael Ramacciotti, identified as a product analyst and video editor, allegedly gained access to sensitive details about iOS 26 through a progress phone issued to an Apple employee. Apple claims Ramacciotti accessed this information while staying at a freind’s home, a friend who happened to be an Apple employee. The lawsuit further states that Ramacciotti, reportedly in need of money, “broke into” the phone and afterward shared the confidential data with Jon Prosser.
Prosser, known for his YouTube channel “Front Page Tech,” is accused of then broadcasting this leaked information in a video. Apple contends that prosser recorded a FaceTime call with Ramacciotti, using the content to create “reconstructed” visuals of iOS 26 for his channel, thereby generating ad revenue. The company also revealed that Ethan Lipnik, the Apple employee whose development device was compromised, has been terminated for failing to secure the device. Apple is seeking both injunctive relief and damages in this case.
Jon Prosser’s Response: Denying Intentional Wrongdoing
Jon Prosser, when contacted by Reuters on Friday, denied any intentional involvement in wrongdoing. He stated, “I certainly did not ‘plot’ to steal information nor did I know how it was obtained originally.” Prosser expressed his anticipation of presenting his side of the story in court.
