APS-C size mirrorless camera “Nikon Z50II” released | News | Nikon Corporate Information
Nikon Imaging Japan Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Nikon Co., Ltd., will release the Nikon Z50II, an APS-C size/DX format mirrorless camera that uses the Nikon Z mount.
The Z50II is a model that is easy to use, even for first-time camera users, and has the ability to enjoy a wide variety of image creation and the superior features and performance of higher-end models, making it easy for even first-time camera users to achieve their desired expressions and create their own images. The Picture Control button has been installed for the first time on the Nikon Z series, making Picture Control even easier to use, allowing you to easily create images just as you envision without complicated settings or editing. In addition, by downloading the “Imaging Recipe”, you can more easily enjoy the expressions of creators you admire and film-like expressions. Furthermore, by adopting the same image processing engine “EXPEED 7” as the flagship model “Nikon Z9” (released in December 2021), it achieves subject detection and excellent AF performance equivalent to “Z9”. You can leave the focusing to the camera and concentrate on creating the image, so even beginners can use it with confidence.
Nikon will continue to pursue new dimensions of optical performance and meet the needs of users. We aim to further expand the possibilities of visual expression and contribute to the development of visual culture.
Release overview
Product name Nikon mirrorless camera “Z50II” Price Open price Release date December 13, 2024
Pre-orders in Japan will start from 10am on November 12th.
Main features
1. Imaging recipes and dedicated buttons support you to express your dreams and create your own images.
By linking with “Nikon Imaging Cloud”, it supports “imaging recipes” that provide opportunities to encounter and challenge new expressions. In addition to saving images as recipes by adjusting color, brightness, contrast, etc., you can also download recipes recommended by Nikon or supervised by famous creators for free and send them to the camera as cloud picture control. .
Additionally, a new picture control button has been added that allows you to change color settings in one step when shooting. Picture Controls can now be changed even when the shooting mode is set to AUTO. You can also instantly access recipes sent to the camera, allowing you to enjoy a variety of expressions as easily as changing film or filters. Additionally, a new Picture Control filter function allows you to display only frequently used items and quickly access your favorite expressions. You can check the effects of Picture Controls on the image monitor or electronic viewfinder (EVF), allowing you to create images exactly as you envisioned.
2. Excellent shooting performance equivalent to higher-end models that support the camera’s debut
Adopts the same image processing engine “EXPEED 7” as “Z9”. In addition to supporting the same nine types of subject detection as the flagship model, the performance of AF-A, which allows the camera to automatically set the AF mode according to the movement of the subject or changes in the composition, has been significantly improved. Even when photographing pets or children whose movements are difficult to predict, the camera allows you to focus on the subject without changing settings. In addition, by utilizing EXPEED 7’s high image processing performance and Nikon’s proprietary deep learning technology, the camera analyzes and recognizes the subject and scene when using shooting mode AUTO, and adjusts exposure settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity. Automatically optimizes control values, AF, and flash control. By simply holding the camera at the desired timing, you can take photos that suit the scene, such as photos with a beautiful blur in the background or sharp photos with little subject blur.
3. High brightness EVF that is brighter, clearer and easier to see
The EVF supports 1000 cd/m2, which is about twice the brightness of the Nikon Z50 (released in November 2019), and allows for clear focus and details around the screen even in bright shooting environments such as outdoors under sunny skies. It is possible to check. The difference in brightness between the viewfinder image and what is seen with the naked eye has been reduced, making it easier to obtain images exactly as you imagined, and reducing the strain and stress placed on the eyes when shooting. The bright, high-brightness EVF supports the experience of “looking through the viewfinder” that can only be achieved with a camera, allowing you to enjoy shooting while concentrating on the scenery and subject in front of you.
4. Full video performance that allows you to take on the challenge of full-fledged video shooting
The image processing engine “EXPEED 7” supports high-resolution 4K UHD video generation with 5.6K oversampling*. It supports “N-Log” video recording that can express smooth brightness gradations, allowing you to shoot professional video. The Z series also has a “product review mode” that focuses on the object in front of the screen, and a “video self-timer” function that allows you to select the interval between pressing REC and starting shooting from “2 seconds” or “10 seconds”. Installed for the first time in Japan. Being able to cut out unnecessary footage in advance simplifies the editing workflow and is extremely useful when shooting review videos and Vlogs. In addition, it supports USB streaming (UVC/UAC), so you can connect it to a PC or smartphone and easily distribute clear images in online meetings or live video distribution.

Main features of remote cord “MC-DC3”
The remote cord “MC-DC3” (scheduled to be released on December 13, 2024) is a remote cord that can be used with the “Z50II” and models released after “Z50II” that have a headphone/remote cord terminal. The length is approximately 1m. This is very useful when you want to minimize the effects of camera shake when using a tripod for starry skies, night views, product photography, etc., or when you want to operate the release from a distance from the camera. Additionally, since the shutter button can be locked in a fully pressed position, it is convenient for long exposure (bulb) photography, and continuous shooting is also possible. You can also keep the shutter button pressed halfway, allowing you to take pictures with less release time lag.
