Monsignor Waldir Boghossian Appointed Apostolic Administrator ⁣in Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES (AP) ⁣— Monsignor Waldir Boghossian has been named Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy “San Gregorio de Narek in Buenos‍ aires” for ‍Armenians, ⁢according to a resolution issued April 22,⁣ 2025, by the City of‍ Buenos Aires.

The‍ appointment, effective March 31, 2025, was communicated by the Apostolic Nunciature in a note dated March 28, 2025, indicating that Pope Francis made the selection while ⁢the Eparchy’s headquarters remains vacant.

Legal Framework for the Appointment

The resolution ⁣references several Argentine laws adn agreements, including⁤ Law Nos. 21,540,24,019,22,552,and 17,032. It ‍specifically cites Article ⁤3 of the agreement between the Holy See and Argentina, signed Oct. 10, 1966, which grants the Holy See the⁢ authority to ‍appoint archbishops, bishops,⁣ and ‍apostolic administrators.

Officials stated that established procedures were followed, and the designated administrator meets all necessary requirements. The recognition of this designation is deemed necessary ⁤for civil and administrative purposes.

Ministry ⁢Involvement

The General Directorate of Legal Affairs reportedly intervened within its area of competence, ‍referencing Article 7 inc. d) of Law No. 19,549 ⁣concerning administrative ⁤procedure. The action was ‍taken under the powers conferred by Article 3 of Resolution No. 73,‍ dated March 14, 2025, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and‍ Worship.
