Army Officer Shot Dead by Police in Florida: Family Claims Mistaken Identity Led to Tragic Incident

Florida: Reports say that an army officer has been shot dead by the police in Florida, USA. Roger Fortson, a 23-year-old Army officer assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squad at Hulbert Field, was shot and killed by police after entering his home. The police barged into his flat, broke down the door and opened fire. Later, it was learned that the police had carried out the murder.

The lawyer who appeared on behalf of the family said that when he was alone in the flat, the police broke down the door and shot him six times. The family also said that the reason for such a murder could be that the police entered the apartment by mistake.

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump said Fortson was on a video call with a young woman at the time of the attack. Crump quoted the woman on the video call as saying Fortson was on the ground after being shot and said, “I can’t breathe.” Fortson died at the hospital, officials said. The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.

Fortson joined the Air Force on November 19, 2019. Crump added that Roger graduated from high school with honors and had no criminal record.
