Arninge Station: Ahlqvist & Alqvist’s Modern Transport Hub in Täby
Ahlqvist & Almqvist Architects recently completed Arninge Station, a modern transport hub in Täby Municipality, north of Stockholm. This project was commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration. The architects handled all phases of the project, including planning, construction detailing, and sustainability initiatives.
Arninge Station integrates various transport modes, connecting the Roslagsbanan railway, express buses on the E18 highway, and local bus services. The design highlights a 144-meter-long glass-covered walkway. This walkway has three stairwells that lead to two bus platforms, facilitating access to both directions on the E18 and a new Roslagsbanan station. It also connects to the nearby Arninge shopping area.
The station provides ample bicycle and car parking. The platforms are sheltered by a wooden structure that protects travelers from the weather. The roof is covered with sedum, which enhances biodiversity and helps manage stormwater.
A notable design feature is the pattern on the glass walls, inspired by ancient runic inscriptions. These inscriptions emphasize the area’s historical significance during the Late Iron Age, suggesting it was an important early transportation center.
