Bottmingen,Switzerland – As Art Basel approaches, the “collective view,” a group of artists,is preparing to host it’s Resonance Festival, aiming to attract art enthusiasts with a diverse programme featuring live acts, performances, parties, and extensive art exhibitions.
The collective operates out of a studio in Bottmingen, a space filled with sculptures, paintings, and a vibrant array of colors. The studio itself is a testament to the group’s artistic philosophy: a celebration of chaos and creativity.
Resonance: An Alternative Art Experience
Jasmine noemi Jetzer, Marinus Börlin, and Andrin Grimm are spearheading the Resonance art festival, utilizing over 2,000 square meters of exhibition space. The festival follows in the footsteps of the Basel Social Club, which successfully drew crowds to Bottmingen’s Kuhwiesen area last year, demonstrating the appeal of art events outside of Basel’s city center.
Jetzer clarified the festival’s position relative to other events, stating, “We do not see ourselves as a competition, but as a counterpart to the social club.” She noted that the Social Club will be located in the old town this year.
The resonance festival aims to create an “echo” of Art Basel, according to the collective. “We absorb vibrations and carry them out into the world again,” Jetzer said. With the festival’s opening drawing near, Jetzer and her colleagues are actively preparing the space to welcome more than 25 invited artists from the region and across the globe.
Featured Artists and the Unterwerk Bottmingen
The festival will showcase a range of artists, including photographer and video artist Brigitte Fässler, sculptors Vincenzo Baviera and Urs Cavelti, visual artist Frank Lülling, and painter Thomas Ritz. The collective’s own artists will also present their work.
Grimm and Börlin established the collective in September 2021 and have as collaborated on numerous projects. Jetzer, who joined more recently, works with diverse media, including light, virtual reality, and film. She emphasizes the collective’s goal to “create resonance rooms for the viewers.”
the collective prioritizes collaboration, focusing on a working show and sales exhibition during the Resonance Festival. “We look forward to an active, common process with all the people who find the path from Basel to us,” the collective stated.
The artists are part of an intermediate use project, having moved to the former Bottmingen sub-plant area from Primeo Energie. This revitalization effort has transformed the space into a hub for art, culture, and startups, including the BUVette Querbeet, all of which will participate in the Resonance Festival.
Revitalizing Bottmingen Through Art
The area near Therwilerstrasse and the Birsig is experiencing a cultural resurgence thanks to the activities of artists and cultural workers. Following a prosperous literary festival in May, the Resonance Festival represents a significant step in attracting both regional and international audiences.
The Resonance Festival aims to foster creative dialog through artist talks, area tours, film screenings, concerts, and after-parties. The diverse program includes a performance by the Basel indie folk band Chimera Paul and a set by German HipHop-DJ ARA.
As the international art scene prepares to converge, sculptures are being delivered, and final touches are being made to the space, including the room where a sheep sculpture oversees the preparations.
