[오토트리뷴=김혜주 기자] Artists and cultural figures are gathering to pay tribute to the late actor Lee Sun-gyun, who died last year while being suspected of drug use.

The Solidarity Association of Cultural Artists announced, “At the press conference on the morning of the 12th, we are issuing a statement entitled ‘Demands of cultural artists facing the death of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun.'”
They expressed their gratitude, saying, “As we face the unfortunate death of actor Lee Sun-gyun, who died on the 27th, something like this should never be repeated.” He continued, “We intend to encourage investigative authorities to thoroughly investigate the truth, request the deletion of articles that do not serve the purpose of reporting, and request the amendment of existing laws to protect the human rights of cultural artists.”
The Cultural Artists Unity Conference was formed around 29 organizations involved in culture and the arts, including the Korean Film Directors Guild and the Korean Screenwriters Guild. Korean cultural and artistic figures will be present at the press conference on the 12th, including director Bong Joon-ho, singer Yoon Jong-shin, actor Choi Deok-moon, and the chairman of the Korea Independent Film Association.
Director Bong Joon-ho became friends with Lee Sun-kyun through the movie ‘Parasite’ and was known to be neighborhood friends with singer Yoon Jong-shin.

Before that, after Lee Sun-kyun’s death, he was criticized for the ‘shameful investigation’ of the police and some media’s indiscriminate public reporting of his private life. Lee Sun-gyun’s agency Hodu & U Entertainment said, “We are heartbroken and devastated. Please do not spread false facts and malicious reports based on speculation so that the deceased is not treated unfairly.”
Meanwhile, the late Lee Sun-gyun has been the subject of a police investigation since October last year on suspicion of drug use. Later, on the 27th of last month, he was found dead in a car in a park parking lot in Seongbuk-gu.
