ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar “Proposal of a four-month ceasefire for humanitarian aid”

Myanmar’s special envoy from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) said that it has proposed a four-month ceasefire to all stakeholders in Myanmar to facilitate humanitarian aid work to Myanmar.

Myanmar’s special envoy Eriwan Yusov said in an interview with Japan’s Kyodo News Agency, “On the 31st of last month, I had a videoconference with Myanmar’s military and foreign minister, and at this meeting, we proposed a ceasefire by the end of this year.”

Eriwan continued, “The truce he proposed is not a political truce, but a truce to ensure the safety of those involved in humanitarian aid when they distribute supplies to the people of Myanmar.”

“The Myanmar military accepted his proposal and indirectly communicated his proposal to the rebel camp,” Eriwan added.

Special Envoy Eriwan said that the first humanitarian aid at the ASEAN level would be made around the middle of this month at the earliest.
