Assad Denies Resignation Rumors Amid Escalating Syrian conflict
Damascus, Syria – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has denied rumors circulating online about his resignation, asserting his continued leadership amidst a surge in violence in the country.
On Friday evening, Assad monitored military and political developments from the capital, Damascus, according to Syrian sources.He also refuted reports suggesting his presence in Iran.
The Syrian Ministry of details issued a statement on Thursday evening debunking a video purporting to show Assad announcing his resignation.The ministry warned citizens to be wary of “terrorist organizations” using artificial intelligence to spread disinformation.
“please pay attention and beware of terrorist organizations using artificial intelligence to release a fake video clip announcing the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad,” the ministry wrote on its official X (formerly twitter) account.
The denial comes as fighting intensifies in northwestern Syria.Last week, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a militant group, launched a surprise offensive against Syrian government forces, seizing control of key areas in Aleppo, Idlib, and the northern countryside of homs.The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that over 800 people have been killed in the clashes, while militant groups claim to have killed more than 65 syrian soldiers and officers.

Over the weekend, Assad monitored military and political developments from the capital, Damascus, directly addressing concerns fueled by a manipulated video purporting to show his resignation proclamation. The Syrian Ministry of Details swiftly debunked the video, warning citizens about the increasing use of artificial intelligence by “terrorist organizations” to spread disinformation.
“Please pay attention and beware of terrorist organizations using artificial intelligence to release a fake video clip announcing the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad,” the ministry stated on its official X account.
This denial comes amidst a surge in violence in northwestern Syria. Last week, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a militant group, initiated a surprise offensive against Syrian government forces, seizing control of strategic areas in Aleppo, Idlib, and the northern countryside of Homs. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported over 800 casualties in the clashes,while militant groups assert to have killed over 65 Syrian soldiers and officers.
