Assassin’s Creed Shadows Arrives on Mac Day One
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the 14th main installment in the franchise, will be released on Mac together with its PC and console debut. The game is set in 16th-century feudal Japan and features two protagonists: Yasuke,an African warrior,and naoe,a shinobi assassin.
Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté showcased the game on a MacBook Pro during the WWDC24 Keynote, calling the Mac release a “longtime dream.” An iPad version is planned.

According to Associate Technical Director Mathieu Belanger,the unified memory architecture between the GPU and CPU made developing for Mac seamless. Creative Director Jonathan Dumont emphasized the importance of authenticity, with the team visiting Japan to capture details from town layouts to wood varnish.
The game offers players a choice between Naoe’s stealth and Yasuke’s strength,with the ability to switch between the two. Technology Director Martin Bedard highlighted the dynamic environments, including fluid-based cloud simulations and changing seasons.
Associate Game Director Dany St-Laurent said a key feature is the Hideout, a customizable home base were players can collect items and interact with animals, including cats.
Dumont said the game focuses on the characters’ journeys and their connection. Côté anticipates the game scaling well on the Mac platform for years.
