The date of the first day of Eid al-Saghir 2024 will be officially announced in Egypt, after the Egyptian Fatwa House surveyed the crescent of Shawwal tomorrow, Monday, April 8, 2024. If the sighting of the crescent is confirmed, the first day of Eid al-Fitr will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

If it is not possible to see the crescent moon, the month of Ramadan will be 30 days long, and the first day of Eid al-Fitr will fall on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Date of the first day of Eid 2024

The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research pointed out, in a statement about the crescent of Shawwal for the year 1445, that the crescent of Shawwal is born immediately after the conjunction occurs at exactly 8:22 pm local Cairo time on Monday, the 29th of Ramadan 1445, corresponding to April 8, 2024 (sighting day).

It is noted that the new crescent will not have been born yet at sunset in the city of Cairo, as well as in the majority of Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, as the moon sets in the old crescent phase (12 minutes before sunset in Mecca and 10 minutes in Cairo, and in the rest of the governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt). With durations ranging from (10-11 minutes), and in Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, with durations ranging from (2-20) minutes.

Thus, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 will be the completion of the month of Ramadan 1445, and the beginning of the month of Shawwal 1445 astronomically will be on Wednesday 10 of the same month (the first day of Eid 2024).

Regarding the duration of the 2024 Eid Al-Saghir leave, Minister of Labor Hassan Shehata announced that from Tuesday, corresponding to April 9, 2024, until Sunday, corresponding to April 14, an official paid holiday, on the occasion of the blessed Eid Al-Fitr.

The Minister of Labor indicated that the decision to leave Eid al-Fitr 2024 for workers in the private sector who are subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003, is to be counted on Sunday, April 14, 2014, from the annual leave balance of the worker in the private sector.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, issued a decision that: “The period from Tuesday, April 9, until Sunday, April 14, will be an official paid holiday for workers in ministries, government departments, public bodies, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies, on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. Blessed Eid al-Fitr.
