A Legacy of Innovation
ASUS is marking three decades of graphics card innovation with the unveiling of the ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090. This isn’t just another high-end GPU; it’s a statement piece built around NVIDIA’s geforce RTX 5090, engineered for unparalleled gaming performance and thermal management. The launch is a festivity of 30 years in the graphics card market, and ASUS is pulling out all the stops.
Engineering a Cooling Behemoth
The ROG Matrix RTX 5090 distinguishes itself with a massive, custom-designed cooling solution. Featuring a quad-fan array – three fans on the front and one exhaust fan - the cooler is optimized to maximize airflow across a ample heatsink. This is further enhanced by the inclusion of a vapor chamber, liquid metal thermal interface material, and extensive copper heat spreading to effectively dissipate the heat generated by a card capable of drawing up to 800 watts.
Performance Gains and Aesthetic Design
ASUS claims the increased power delivery of the ROG Matrix RTX 5090 will translate to a 10% performance uplift compared to NVIDIA’s Founders Edition variant. While specific video memory clock speeds haven’t been confirmed, the GPU is expected to reach boost clocks of up to 2,730 MHz. The card’s design is striking, featuring a rounded aesthetic around the rear fans, reminiscent of older graphics card designs like the Radeon HD 4890 or even Creative’s Sound blaster Evo ZxR headset, thanks to the use of acrylic glass with integrated lighting.
Limited Availability and Exclusive Access
The ROG Matrix RTX 5090 won’t be widely available. ASUS is limiting production to just 1,000 units worldwide, making it a highly sought-after item for collectors and enthusiasts. The company plans to distribute the cards through competitions and giveaways tied to their 30th-anniversary celebrations. Given the limited quantity and premium features, the price tag is expected to be substantial.
