Attack on concert hall in Moscow: State TV publishes fake video

Read video transcript

The concert goers had no chance. With incredible cold blood, the attackers shoot each other one by one. IS published the video itself. The terrorist organization claims responsibility for the attack.
But Russia blames Ukraine for part of the blame. President Putin says:
“The attackers tried to escape and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary information, an opportunity was being prepared for them to cross the state border.”

Ukraine vehemently denies the allegations; in his daily video address, Ukrainian President Zelensky says:
“Of course, after what happened in Moscow yesterday, Putin and the other bastards are just trying to blame someone else.”
On Russian state television, Putin’s propagandists are trying to support Moscow’s thesis. They play a purported statement from Oleksii Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. However, the video is a deepfake:

“Are you having fun in Moscow today? I think it’s a lot of fun. I can imagine that we will organize this fun more often. After all, they are our brothers. You should make your relatives happy and visit them more often. So we will continue to visit them.”
A statement that Danilov never made. The video is intended to help consolidate Putin’s accusations against Ukraine.
German security experts believe Putin will try to make political capital out of the attack. He could portray Russia as a threatened country that needs to defend itself even harder against attacks.
Over 130 people were killed in the attack on the concert hall in Moscow on Friday evening.
