Attempt to swindle Rs 20 lakh by trapping young businessman in honeytrap; One arrested

Kottayam: A Kasargod resident was arrested for trying to extort Rs 20 lakh by trapping a young businessman in a honeytrap. The Honeytrap gang tried to extort Rs 20 lakh from a young businessman from Vaikom. The gang also seized Rs 1.35 lakh. The young man was threatened after being called to a lodge in Cherthala last Sunday after pretending to be in love.

The Honeytrap team consisted of a three-member team, including a Kasargod resident. Police tactically nabbed a member of the group who had come to collect the money. Ranjini from Ambalathara, Kasargod, Subin Krishnan from Koovapalli, Kathirappally and Joslyn from Njarakkal were involved in the scam.

Ranjini met a young Vaikom businessman over the phone and fell in love with him. The two had been talking on the phone every day for the past while. Meanwhile, the young man had repeatedly asked to see the girl in person. Following this, Ranjini took the businessman to a lodge room in Cherthala. Subin and Krishnan followed them. Meanwhile, the young man took off his clothes and sat with the young woman and took pictures with his mobile camera. The image will be spread through social media, to avoid it. The gang demanded Rs 20 lakh.

At the request of the young businessman to go to his house in Vaikom, a member of the gang arrived there. Meanwhile, the information was reported to the police. He was taken into police custody while handing over Rs 1.35 lakh to them. Police said they have intensified the investigation for the others and will arrest them soon.

Shakira (27), daughter of Ananthayoor Ilampilatassery Kunjimuhammed and Nafisa, was strangled to death by her husband Shameer (34) with a plastic rope around her neck. The incident took place inside the house around 2 pm on Friday. Shamir left after calling his landlord on the phone after the murder.
