Aussie Envoy’s Bold Move: Trump’s Key Posts Suddenly Vanish
Kevin Rudd Deletes Criticism of Donald Trump
Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has deleted several posts on social media where he had openly attacked Donald Trump.
Rudd’s Past Criticism of Trump
After the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential election of the United States, it seems that some former critics are going cold. Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd – Australia’s Ambassador to Washington since 2023 - had often commented on Donald Trump in interviews and on social media. In a tweet around 2020, Rudd wrote that Trump was ”dragging America and democracy through the mud.” He thrives on creating divisions rather than mending them and is “the most destructive president in history.”
Deleted Tweets and a Congratulatory Telegram
When you click on the links to these tweets, it now says: “This page does not exist.” Instead, Rudd posted a congratulatory telegram to Trump on X. Rudd’s office said the deleted content did not reflect the views of the ambassador or the Australian government.
Rudd’s Office Responds
“Out of respect for the office of President of the United States and following the election of President Trump, Ambassador Rudd has removed these previous comments from his personal website and social media channels.” Rudd looks forward to working with President Trump and his team “to further strengthen the US-Australia alliance.”
Trump Responds to Criticism
Trump himself addressed the criticism in an interview with Australian broadcaster SBS in March. He emphasized that he had heard that Rudd was not the brightest. But if the former prime minister is in fact “hostile,” he will not remain the ambassador to the USA for long.
