Austrian Tennis Stars Shine at Babolat Cup in Lyon
Lyon, France – Two young Austrian tennis prodigies, luca Sageder and Marie Schmidhofer, have returned home from Lyon with a double victory, claiming the U12 titles at the prestigious Babolat Cup international finals.
The duo, who earned their spots by winning the Austrian Masters of the Drei Jugendcircuit presented by Babolat, dominated the competition, showcasing their exceptional talent against top young players from six other European nations.Sageder, displaying remarkable consistency, dropped only five games across his three group matches. He continued his dominant run, defeating France’s Leonis Boudjema 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals and Spain’s Pablo Garrido Gracia 6-3, 6-0 in the final.
Schmidhofer,equally impressive,cruised through her first two group matches with 6-1,6-0 victories. After a tougher challenge from Mila angrave (6-4, 6-3), she stormed to victory in the final, defeating Britain’s angrave 6-1, 6-1.”This is a top performance from both of them,” said Bastian Postler, Country Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at Babolat. “It speaks volumes about the high level of talent within the Drei Jugendcircuit presented by Babolat.”
As a reward for their outstanding achievements, Sageder and Schmidhofer will now embark on an exclusive training week at the renowned Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Spain.
Adding to the excitement, the young champions had the possibility to meet tennis stars Dominic Thiem, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Botic van de Zandschulp, and wheelchair tennis pro Niels Vink.

Melzer, who recently visited Sageder and Schmidhofer during his “Jürgen on Tour” initiative in Linz, praised their professionalism and maturity. “Thay are undoubtedly two of our brightest talents,” he said. “They work incredibly hard and are mentally advanced for their age, which is reflected in their results.”
Both Sageder and Schmidhofer train at the OÖTV Performance Center under Head Coach Jürgen Waber, with Tomas Visek serving as Sageder’s personal coach. visek accompanied the pair to Lyon, providing valuable guidance throughout the tournament.
