Police in Spain have confirmed that a body discovered in a natural pool on Gran Canaria is that of Annabella Lovas, a 32-year-old Hungarian reality television personality and social media influencer. Lovas, who gained public recognition in 2021 after appearing on the Hungarian version of The Bachelor,
was identified through dental records after investigators sent a tooth to Interpol as part of a months-long effort to determine her identity.
The body was found on March 6, 2025, in a natural pool located in the Berriel Ravine, an area inland from the coast of Gran Canaria in Spain’s Canary Islands. The discovery followed storms that had occurred the previous month. According to police reports, the deceased woman was naked from the waist down. Forensic experts estimated that the body had been lying in the water for approximately three weeks before being discovered.
Identification challenges
Investigators faced significant obstacles in identifying the remains. The body’s fingertips had been destroyed during the time it spent in the water, making it impossible for forensic experts to extract conclusive DNA evidence. The difficult-to-access location of the discovery also complicated the investigation. Police conducted searches of the surrounding area using drones and helicopters but found no trace of the woman’s personal belongings.
The breakthrough in the case came when detectives sent a tooth from the remains to Interpol for analysis. Dental records subsequently confirmed that the body was that of Annabella Lovas, a Hungarian national who had been residing in Gran Canaria.
Background and prior missing persons report
Lovas had previously been the subject of a missing persons appeal in November 2024. That matter was resolved days later when police located her at an apartment in the resort of Playa del Ingles on Gran Canaria. At that time, she confirmed to authorities that she was safe. Her family had raised concerns again shortly after that incident, which prompted detectives to investigate whether she could be the unidentified woman found in the natural pool.
According to police, Lovas was described as a vulnerable person.
She had moved to Gran Canaria from Hungary following a battle with cancer, which had left her with psychological after-effects. The specific nature of her cancer and treatment was not disclosed in the police statements.
Investigation ongoing
While authorities have confirmed Lovas’s identity, the exact cause of her death remains undetermined. Forensic experts have not yet established conclusive findings regarding how she died. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death continues.
Lovas rose to public prominence in 2021 through her appearance on the Hungarian version of The Bachelor,
a reality television dating competition format that originated in the United States and has been adapted in numerous countries worldwide. Following her television appearance, she built a following on social media as an influencer.
The case highlights the challenges faced by investigators when dealing with unidentified remains in natural environments, where exposure to the elements can quickly degrade forensic evidence. Spanish authorities continue to appeal for any information that may assist in determining the circumstances of Lovas’s death.
