Hong Kong Badminton Open: Lei Lanxi and Han Yue Advance to Quarterfinals

Hong Kong, September 12 – The Hong Kong Badminton Open continued on the 12th, with China’s Lei Lanxi and Han Yue defeating their opponents in the men’s and women’s singles competitions respectively and advancing to the quarterfinals.

Men’s Singles Competition

In the men’s singles competition, Lei Lanxi lost the first game at 17:21 but reversed the game against Jeon Yi Chen of South Korea 21:16, 21:14 and advanced to the quarterfinals. He will compete with Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong, China for a place in the semifinals.

Two-time Olympic champion, Danish player Viktor Axelsen defeated Chinese Taipei’s Su Liyang 2-0 to advance. His next opponent is Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen.

Axelsen stated that he was a little relaxed after the Olympics and did not have systematic training. “It was not easy to win two rounds of competition. The biggest goal is to get back to the level before the Olympics.”

Women’s Singles Competition

In the women’s singles competition, Han Yue defeated Chinese Taipei player Liang Tingyu 21:14, 21:13. Her opponent in the quarterfinals is Japan’s Ohori Aya.

Men’s Doubles Competition

In the men’s doubles competition, only Huang Di/Zhou Haodong advanced from the four Chinese pairs, who defeated Lin Bingwei/Su Jingheng of Chinese Taipei 2:0. The other three pairs of Chinese badminton teams, Chen Boyang/Guo Ruohan, Xie Haonan/Zeng Weihan, and Chen Xujun/Liu Yi, all lost.

Women’s Doubles Competition

In the women’s doubles competition, Chinese players Li Wenmei/Zhang Shuxian and Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning both defeated their opponents with a score of 2:0 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Mixed Doubles Competition

In the mixed doubles competition, four pairs of Chinese badminton teams, Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping, Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin, Guo Xinwa/Chen Fanghui and Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi, all defeated their opponents 2:0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin will face Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi in the next round, securing a place in the semifinals for the Chinese team in advance.
