Baerbock Gets Hands-On Look: Germany’s Defense and Energy Systems Take Center Stage
The Russian president is also repeatedly launching massive drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. German supplied tanks also play an important role in defence.
During a visit to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock learned about the use of German-supplied Gepard anti-aircraft tanks. Ukrainian soldiers reported their work to a Green Party politician in the greater area of the capital Kiev. Germany has so far delivered 55 Gepard tanks with spare parts and 176,000 pieces of anti-aircraft ammunition from Bundeswehr and industrial stocks to Ukraine to defend against Russian air attacks.
A Gepard tank crew reported shooting down three Russian drones on Friday. He also asked Baerbock for more support with materials and ammunition.
Afterwards, the German Foreign Minister was shown an energy plant in the greater Kiev area which had already been hit several times by Russian missiles and which produces electricity.
Baerbock arrived in the morning for his eighth solidarity visit to Ukraine since Russia’s war of aggression began in February 2022. The visit was not announced for security reasons. In the past few days, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly launched massive drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The Gepard tanks are considered to be particularly effective, among other things, in defending against drone attacks.
