PlayStation Plus Unveils Free Games for May, Including Indie Darling ‘Balatro’
Sony’s PlayStation Plus service is set to offer subscribers a fresh batch of downloadable games starting May 6. The lineup,available until June 2,includes a diverse selection spanning survival,strategy,and retro-FPS genres.

Ark: Survival Ascended (PS5)
Players can test their survival skills in Ark: survival Ascended. According to PlayStation, this reimagining of the original survival game, built with Unreal Engine 5, challenges players to “form a tribe, domesticate and raise hundreds of dinosaur species and other primitive creatures, explore, manufacture, build and fight to reach the top of the food chain.” The game includes access to various ark worlds, such as Scorched Earth and Aberration.
Balatro (PS5, PS4)
Balatro, a poker-inspired roguelike deck builder, also joins the lineup. PlayStation describes the game as tasking players to “create a powerful synergy to win big” by playing “pondestine poker hands” and discovering “wildfires that change the rules of the game.” The title garnered nominations in 2024.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun (PS5, PS4)
Rounding out the free games is Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, a retro-style first-person shooter set in the Warhammer universe. playstation says players can “enjoy a perfect combination between Warhammer 40,000, a classic and frantic FPS game experience, and the distinguished graphics of your favorite retro shooting games of the 90s.”
Last Chance for April’s Games
PlayStation Plus subscribers have until May 5 to download April’s free games: RoboCop: Rogue City, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – hacker’s Memory.
