Repairs to the Ham Bridge in Ballina,County Mayo, are scheduled to begin on Monday, september 8th,2025,and are expected to conclude on Friday,September 19th,2025. The work addresses damage sustained to the bridge during the summer months.
The Ham Bridge, a protected structure originally built in 1836, requires specialized conservation work. Consultants from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) assessed the bridge’s parapet and determined the necessary repairs, necessitating the sourcing of replacement cut stone.
Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
While both lanes of traffic across Ham Bridge will remain open throughout the repair period, one footpath will be closed to pedestrians. A section of ridgepool Road will be temporarily closed to facilitate the installation of counterweight scaffolding. Diversions will be clearly marked and in place for the duration of the work.
Mayo County Council is working in collaboration wiht TII and appointed engineering contractors to minimize disruption during the restoration process.
