Baltimore residents can expect a continuation of unsettled weather conditions, with rain lingering through Friday and the potential for a wintry mix – including snow – arriving this weekend.
Soggy Thursday Night
Periods of rain and fog will continue throughout Thursday night, creating hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Despite the chilly, damp weather, temperatures are expected to remain above freezing, with overnight lows ranging from the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.
Brief Warmup Friday
Rain will persist into Friday morning, but is forecast to clear the Baltimore area by noon. Temperatures could rebound quickly Friday afternoon, particularly if sunshine breaks through the clouds. However, a significant temperature range is anticipated across the region, from the 40s in the north and east to near 60 degrees in the south and west. Baltimore city is expected to experience temperatures around 50 degrees.
Rain and Snow on Sunday
Saturday is expected to be dry and mild, but another storm system is poised to move through on Sunday – a recurring pattern for recent Sundays. At this time, a combination of rain and snow is the most likely scenario. Temperatures will remain above freezing during the day but are expected to drop overnight.
How Much Snow?
Any snow accumulation is most likely to occur Sunday evening into Monday morning, when temperatures are at their coldest. The most probable amount for the Baltimore area is between 1 and 3 inches. However, the amount of snowfall remains uncertain. A weaker, warmer system could result in less than an inch of snow, while a colder, stronger system could bring 6 inches or more. Given the milder air currently in place, the latter scenario is considered less likely.
