Thai authorities have arrested 12 individuals and confiscated 18 firearms along with more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition in a nationwide operation targeting the illegal firearms trade. The crackdown follows a previous campaign aimed at dismantling mafia groups.
The suspects, ranging in age from their early 20s to their 50s, were apprehended during raids conducted in Bangkok and other provinces over the past week. Pol Maj Gen Wittaya Sriprasertparb, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), announced the arrests tuesday.
The operation, dubbed “Operation endgame: Bullet Express,” focused on online arms trafficking and involved raids on 22 locations June 5.This initiative is an extension of a national campaign launched March 21 to combat criminal networks.The earlier campaign resulted in 32 raids, 16 arrests, and the seizure of 23 firearms and 564 rounds of ammunition.
The recent raids yielded six semi-automatic pistols, five single-barrel shotguns, five single-shot rifles, one revolver, one homemade gun, and 31,538 rounds of ammunition, according to Wittaya.
The 12 suspects face charges of collaborating in the unlicensed possession or sale of firearms and ammunition for
