Prince Albert and Princess Charlène of Monaco officially welcomed Italian President Sergio Mattarella to the principality for a state visit on October 2, according to coverage from Paris Match. The diplomatic engagement began in the courtyard of the Prince’s Palace with a formal welcome ceremony orchestrated by the Monégasque sovereign.
The arrival marks a state visit hosted by the principality, following the reception of the president of Portugal a year prior and Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron in July 2025.
Official Welcoming Ceremony at the Prince’s Palace
President Mattarella arrived at the Prince’s Palace accompanied by his daughter, Laura, who stepped in to fulfill the role of first lady due to the president’s widower status. Princess Charlène and 11-year-old Gabriella greeted the visiting lawyer warmly upon their entry into the courtyard. Gabriella presented a bouquet of flowers to Laura in a gesture observed by her twin brother, Jacques.
For the welcoming ceremony, Gabriella wore a pale pink wide-leg pant suit that closely matched an outfit worn by her mother. Paris Match reported that Princess Charlène selected a cream-colored trouser suit cut in a very similar style to her daughter’s attire, following an appearance earlier in the week in a Dior ensemble to meet Pope Leo XIV. Following traditional greetings and a review of the troops, the Italian and Monégasque heads of state moved inside the palace for a series of private audiences.

Albert and Charlène Host Guests at Opera and Museum
The itinerary for the first day includes cultural events in the evening. Albert and Charlène planned to host their guests at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo to attend a lyric performance by singer Cécilia Bartoli. The evening concludes with an official gala dinner held inside the palace.
Events scheduled for Saturday feature a guided tour of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, built facing the sea at the initiative of Prince Albert I. Both Jacques and Gabriella are expected to join the leaders for the museum visit before the official farewells conclude the state delegation’s trip.
