Gardaí are treating the death of Kathleen Carey, a Dublin mother in her 30s, as a serious assault following a fall from a balcony in the Belmayne area of north Dublin. Ms Carey died in hospital on Wednesday, two days after the incident occurred on Monday afternoon near Main Street in Dublin 13.
Investigators are examining whether Ms Carey fell while attempting to escape an alleged assault inside an apartment or whether she may have been pushed or knocked from the height. While an initial emergency call indicated that she had jumped, Gardaí are considering several possibilities, including whether foul play was a feature in the fall, and are awaiting the results of a technical examination at the scene and a post-mortem examination to determine the course of the investigation.
